“Shashi Tharoor Predicts BJP Loss of Majority in Lok Sabha, Counters PM Modi’s ‘Act East’ Policy Claim”

top-news

In a bold prediction, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor declared on Wednesday that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would fall short of winning 300 seats in the upcoming general elections, consequently losing its majority in the Lok Sabha. Tharoor expressed his confidence, stating, “I am 100 per cent sure that the BJP is not getting anywhere near 300. They are going to lose their majority.”

Tharoor’s statement comes in light of the BJP’s impressive performance in the 2019 elections, where they secured 303 seats out of 543. However, he believes that the upcoming polls will witness a shift in the political landscape.

Responding to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remarks regarding the ‘Act East’ policy, Tharoor countered by stating that there was no looting happening from the east and clarified that the ‘Look East’ policy was focused on Southeast Asian countries, not domestic Indian politics.

Meanwhile, PM Modi, addressing a rally in Agartala, highlighted the BJP government’s initiatives in Tripura, emphasizing the ‘Act East’ policy and infrastructure development plans for the region.

In the electoral arena, Tharoor has been re-nominated for the Thiruvananthapuram seat, setting the stage for a triangular contest with Union Minister Rajeev Chandrashekhar representing the BJP and CPI leader Pannyan Raveendran from the CPM-led LDF.

The upcoming Lok Sabha polls, slated for April-May, are expected to witness heightened political fervor, especially in constituencies like Thiruvananthapuram, making it a focal point of national attention.
